DAY 2 (SATURDAY): AT LEISURE

Day of leisure in Tel Aviv.

DAY 3 (SUNDAY): CAESAREA / HAIFA / ACRE / ROSH HANIKRA

This morning we will drive up the coast of the  Mediterranean Sea to the ancient city of Caesarea, once the Roman capital of the region. See the excavations of the crusaders’ city, the aqueduct and the amphitheatre which has been restored as a concert venue. Followed by a visit to the city of  Haifa for a panoramic view from Mt. Carmel and visit “AF AL PI CHEN”, the naval museum of the illegal immigration to Israel at the time of the British mandate. Drive to Acre; walk along the old harbour and local market; Continue to the northernmost point of Israel at Rosh Hanikra. Descend by cable into the limestone Grottoes.

DAY 8 (WEDNESDAY): JERUSALEM OLD CITY

This morning we will visit of the tomb of King David on Mt. Zion. We will enter Zion Gate and walk through the Jewish Quarter making our way to the Cardo, the ancient Roman road; Visit the four Sepharadic synagogues restored after 1967 war in the Jewish quarter. Tour the Kotel Tunnels (Western Wall Tunnels); Visit the Davidson center and walk through the  incredible Roman Cardo, to the local Arab bazaar. Walk through Jaffa gate to David’s Tower museum and see the ancient remains of the city beginning with the first Temple period.

DAY 9 (THURSDAY): JERUSALEM

This morning we will begin at the Western Wall (Kotel) and enjoy seeing the Bar-Mitzvah celebration ceremonies. Mazal Tov! We will continue to Mea Shearim and learn about the distinctive way of life of the ultra orthodox communities.

Followed by a visit to the Mount Herzl military cemetery and Yad Vashem, Holocaust Memorial Museum. We will continue to Ammunition Hill,  which was a former Jordanian army trenches, taken by the Israeli Army in the Six Day War and transformed into a national memorial and museum.

Drive by Israel’s Parliament – the Knesset – and see the huge Menorah with the biblical symbols. Our last stop will be at the Israel Museum with a visit to the Shrine of the Book where the amazing Dead Sea Scrolls are exhibited as well as the Holyland model of 2nd Temple period Jerusalem.

DAY 10 (FRIDAY): QUMERAN / MASSADA

This morning we will drive through the Judean desert to the Dead Sea.  We will begin with a visit at Qumran, the site where the Dead Sea scrolls were found. We will continue to Massada, ascend by cable car and tour the ancient fortress; visit the remains of the walls, palaces, synagogue, the bathhouses etc. Descend by cable car. We will continue for lunch and use of Spa facilities in one of the leading hotels in the Dead Sea area.

We will continue to the ancient site of Beit Shean, also called “Scythopolis”, the biggest archeological park in Israel with incredible excavations from both the Roman and Byzantine periods. You will continue to Beit Alpha and appreciate the beauty of the mosaic floor of a synagogue from the Byzantine period. Followed by a refreshing visit to Gan Hashlosha, (Sachne) where you will have an opportunity to enjoy swimming in the springs located at the foots of the Gilboa mountain. The location where King Saul was killed in the battle against the Philistines. We will drive through the Jordan valley en route to Jerusalem; Stop at Mount Scopus for a blessing as you enter the city.

DAY 4 (MONDAY): SAFED / GOLAN HEIGHTS / UPPER GALILEE

This morning we will start with a visit the mystical city of Safed, the center of the Kaballah movement; Visit the JOSEPH CARO and the HA’ ARI synagogues, the most important synagogues in the city; stroll around the the Artist’s quarter. Enjoy an exciting jeep tour to the foots of the Golan. Continue to the Golan heights and visit Mount Bental at an observation point over Northern Israel as well as the city of Kuneitra, and Syrian territory. You will stop at Tel Facher, a former Syrian army camp.  Visit the Banias springs. Next, a visit to Tel-Hai; See the “Roaring Lion” monument and learn about the heroic battle of Josef Trumpeldor and his comrades in 1920. Finally, meet with a kibbutz member to learn about their unique lifestyle.
